Family adventures
After a stay at The Esplanade Hotel, we caught up with Rowena (@fourfamilyadventures) to find out more about their dreamy getaway and memorable moments.
How did you get into content creating?
I have aways been creative and loved photography, especially capturing our travel memories. I have a background in marketing, and travel has been a passion of mine for many years. When I started a family, I loved finding places both local and across the UK to explore with my family. I much preferred the idea of reading other people’s reviews before visiting somewhere new. I decided to start my own social media sharing all our adventures over the years. I especially love finding family friendly unique places to stay and hidden gems, and inspiring other families to visit.
What's your favourite thing about Newquay?
I fell in love with Newquay when we first visited when my eldest son was just one. I loved Fistral Beach and the surfing atmosphere. I remember taking a picture of my son on a body board and said I couldn’t wait to return when he was older and teach him to surf. When I was in my late teens, I was fortunate to live in the states for a while. Whilst I was there, I visited the beautiful pacific coastline along California. I feel Newquay definitely rivals that. The coastline in Newquay is stunning. There are some beautiful coastal walks and of course a bustling restaurant scene, and night life. Of course, it’s the surfing capital of the UK and hosts the annual Boardmasters festival. I think it encapsulates the perfect destination for all ages.
Surfing or swimming?
It has to be surfing, although I am not actually very good at it! We all love swimming as a family too. I think the perfect family holiday must have swimming involved!
Sweet or savoury?
I have a sweet tooth for sure! I especially love an afternoon tea with delicious cakes and scones, so I was very excited to enjoy the afternoon tea at Cove Restaurant at The Esplanade during my stay. The Cornish clotted cream and Cornish ice cream were mouthwatering!
Exploring the town or beach day?
Can I say both? I love both but my heart always leans to the coast. I love waking up to the sound of the ocean and enjoying a morning swim, followed by an afternoon coastal walk, and finishing the day relaxing on the beach with a gorgeous sunset. However, I also love exploring beautiful towns across the UK. Some of my favourites are in the Cotswolds for example. I have also gone on many city breaks with my family, and a day out in London is always a winner!
Breakfast or dinner?
It has to be dinner for me; I loved eating dinner in Cove Restaurant at The Esplanade. Our table had a gorgeous sea view and was the perfect setting. We enjoyed all three courses, and they were all equally delicious. Our boys enjoyed the kid’s menu too. I love seafood so I was in my element. I recommend the Seared Tuna Steak and my husband loved the Cornish Beef Burger.
What was the highlight of your stay with us?
Waking up every morning with the beautiful sea views from our hotel room and being able to walk across the road to explore the stunning Fistral Beach. I have special memories of watching the spectacular sunset from the hotel whilst my boys were enjoying the entertainment in the games area.
What was your favourite family moment?
The Esplanade Hotel offers non-stop entertainment for families. For us it was all the sporting activities: the on-site swimming pool, Pickleball court, indoor soft play and the outdoor play area. The highlight had to be the on-site Quicksilver Surf School that was attached to the hotel. I loved watching our boys learning to surf and then coming back to relax in the hotel after catching the waves.
