At The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, our position overlooking Fistral Beach means Cornwall’s wild beauty is part of everyday life. From gulls soaring above the waves to rockpools filled with life, nature helps shape the memories guests make here.

That’s why we’re proud to share that we have become a member of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Business Network, joining a community of businesses working together to protect the landscapes and wildlife that make Cornwall so special.

Nature is in decline across the county. Cornwall Wildlife Trust reports that 12% of species of principal importance are threatened with local extinction or complete loss in Cornwall, while breeding birds, terrestrial mammals, butterflies, plants and bumblebees have all seen worrying declines in recent decades. It’s a reminder that the places we love to explore, photograph and return to need care and collective action.

What is the Wilder Business Network?

The Wilder Business Network supports Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s work to restore nature, protect habitats and inspire people to take positive action for wildlife. Membership helps fund vital conservation across the county, from managing and developing nature reserves to protecting native wildlife, championing nature with decision makers, advising landowners and educating communities.

For us, it also feels like a natural extension of who we are. As a hotel beside one of Cornwall’s best-loved beaches, we welcome guests who come to splash, surf, explore and reconnect with the coast. Supporting Cornwall Wildlife Trust means helping to protect the very environment that makes Newquay breaks so memorable.

Small ways to get involved

• Do a beach clean. If you see litter on the beach, you can help by picking it up and placing it in a bin, while always staying safe and avoiding anything sharp, medical or hazardous. In sensitive areas such as dunes, please stick to paths and avoid disturbing plants, wildlife or nesting spots.
