The Esplanade Hotel Blog
A day by the seaside calls for a chippy tea!
For each fish and chips sold at The Esplanade Hotel’s Cove Restaurant £1 is donated to The Wave Project.
Join the Feel Good Food Club and do good this season. Cove Restaurant’s new summer menu has launched featuring the traditional seaside dish of Cornish Beer Battered Fish. Every person who orders this meal will support The Wave Project, a local mental health charity helping young people access the wellbeing benefits of being in the sea.
Cornish Beer Battered Fish
It doesn’t take much persuasion to order the British classic but we thought we’d ask our chefs a little bit about the dish. Here’s what they said:
“The Cornish Beer Battered Fish on the Cove Restaurant summer menu is a staple and I hope we’ll be cooking up a lot this sunny season so that we can help The Wave Project. Of course, the fish is as fresh as can be living so close to the sea and the beer batter is inspired by some of Cornwall’s finest breweries. A twist on the classic, this dish is accompanied by a pea puree and served with the must have tartar sauce, as well as a lemon garnish and flavoursome Cornish Sea Salt on top.”
Order the Cornish Beer Battered Fish this summer and know you’re doing good whilst having dining out.
The Wave Project
Based in Newquay The Wave Project launched 10 years ago on one of our coastline’s beautiful beaches. Its aim was to help young people struggling with their mental health access the benefits of surf therapy. Since then The Wave Project has become one of the UK’s first NHS funded surf therapy providers.
Youngsters can gain new experiences learning to surf and meet new people in a natural environment on the coast. Young people dealing with anxiety and other mental health concerns are paired up with a surf mentor. The mentors help participant’s to overcome worries about the water and build up their confidence in the surf, teaching them resilience in a setting very different to traditional therapy.
If you’re visiting Newquay, you can visit The Wave Project’s base on Fore Street where they have a surf shop selling beach goods, of which proceeds go to the charity.

Cove Restaurant
It’s beachside dining with a side of sea views at Cove Restaurant. Set inside The Esplanade Hotel you can find Cove Restaurant through the Reception and Lounge. Find a table and settle in for a coastal dining experience with iconic views of the UK’s top surfing destination, Fistral Beach. Watch the waves roll in and enjoy a selection of local drinks, a curated wine menu and a wide choice of non-alcoholic drinks.
If children are in tow, they can delight in the indoor soft play area whilst grown-ups have a conversation or just enjoy some peace, meditating on the sea views before you. We recommend timing your table booking with sundown for an unforgettable experience watching the sun set over the horizon.
